The third project year of the EU and Business Finland funded Arrowhead fPVN is about to begin. The digitalization of the process industry in various business purposes, various information system applications and various business processes requires new types of standards and joint agreements between business networks on how to apply standards in different business purposes - so that data interoperability can be verified. The webinar presentations opened up these challenges from selected perspectives.

THTH is one of the actors preparing pilot projects for the process industry, especially from a Finnish perspective. In addition to Finland, Sweden and Norway are also involved in the same Arrowhead fPVN process industry digitalization challenges. To accelerate development, Arrowhead fPVN and the Norwegian DISC project decided to join forces to create suitable standardization and business ecosystems for company pilot projects in different countries.

Although Arrowhead fPVN focuses on technical data management, the commercial transactions that drive all data exchange must be taken into account when defining the data exchange processes. Ultimately, the customer always requires not only the delivery of goods, but also the provision of all agreed and regulatory required data before accepting payment of the invoice. The widely used Peppol standard offers strong support for commercial transaction messages - Equinor’s presentation shows what benefits this brings. Among other things, the Arrowhead fPVN pilots will test how technical data exchange processes can be linked to the exchange of commercial messages.

The content of technical information in the design, construction and operation of a production plant depends on the industry sector. Most of the technical information standards were originally created for the needs of certain industrial verticals. However, a large part of the information on devices (such as pipes, instruments, electric motors, valves, pumps,…) is common to all verticals - i.e. horizontal. One of the Arrowhead fPVN work packages focuses on ensuring that we can smoothly utilize different standards for different digitalization needs. One tool is the standards service, for which THTH (together with SEIIA) signed a cooperation agreement with PCA six months ago. PCA introduced its Library Service for THTH audience in the webinar. The service is also utilized by the DISC project.
